چکیده

The Sintering behavior and kinetic evaluation of the bio-ceramics from bovine bone are investigated by stepwise isothermal dilatometry (SID), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The isothermal shrinkage data obtained from SID could be well analyzed to get kinetic parameters according to the empirical rate equation developed by Makipirtti-Meng, dY/dt = nk(T)Y(1-Y)[Y/(1-Y)], where Y is the fractional volume shrinkage during sintering process and n a dimensionless exponent. The apparent activation energy ∆E values obtained for 1000-1100°C and 1100-1250°C are 84.1 and 52.8 kJ/mol, respectively. Correspondingly, the exponent n that can be served to reveal the morphology changing during the sintering process are also much different in the two temperature ranges, which is well consistent with the SEM observation.

Comparison of Purity and Properties of Hydroxyl Carbonate Apatite Extracted from Natural Thigh Bone by Different Physio-chemical Methods

New approaches to extracting natural hydroxyl carbonate apatite from bio waste of bovine bones cortical femur have been developed. To extract pure and natural bio ceramics, three different treatments have been applied: 1-Calcination heat treatment at temperature of 700 , 2-alkaline hydrothermal at temperature of 275 and 3-Pressurized low polarity water at temperature of 250 . Raw bovine bone an...

Synthesis, Characterization and In Vitro Study of Synthetic and Bovine-Derived Hydroxyapatite Ceramics: A Comparison

The physicochemical properties and biological behavior of sintered-bovine-derived hydroxyapatite (BHAp) are here reported and compared to commercial synthetic-HAp (CHAp). Dense ceramics were sintered for 2 h and 4 h at 1200 °C to investigate their microstructure-structure-in-vitro behavior relationship for both HAp ceramics. Densification was directly proportional to sintering time, showing a g...

First-Row Transition Metal Doping in Calcium Phosphate Bioceramics: A Detailed Crystallographic Study

Doped calcium phosphate bioceramics are promising materials for bone repair surgery because of their chemical resemblance to the mineral constituent of bone. Among these materials, BCP samples composed of hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO₄)₆(OH)₂) and β-TCP (Ca₃(PO₄)₂) present a mineral analogy with the nano-multi-substituted hydroxyapatite bio-mineral part of bones. At the same time, doping can be used ...

CRYSTALLIZATION AND SINTERABILITY BEHAVIOR OF BIORESORBABLE CaO-P2O5-Na2O-TiO2 GLASS CERAMICS FOR BONE REGENERATION APPLICATION

Abstract:Some types of glass and glass ceramics have a great potential for making bone tissue engineering scaffolds, drug carrier and bone cements as they can bond to host bone, stimulate bone cells toward osteogenesis, and resorb at the same time as the bone is repaired. Calcium phosphate glass ceramics have very attractive properties that allow them to use in bone tissue engineering. Calcium ...

THE EFFECT OF RAW MATERIALS CONCENTRATION ON HYDROXYAPATITE POWDER CHARACTERISTICS AND SINTERING BEHAVLOR

Ultrafine hydroxyapatite (HAp) powders with crystallite size in the range of 10-90 nm were synthesized by chemical precipitation process using Ca(OH)2 and H3PO4 solutions as starting materials. Molar ratio of Ca/P=1.68 was kept constant throughout the process and alkaline condition for the reaction was maintained using ammonium hydroxide. The role of raw material concentration on HAp crystallit...
